I have too much Eared Watermoss. It's a great plant, but after observation I realized that my betta's odd behavior is due to there being NO SURFACE LEFT in my 5 gallon.

I got a couple sprigs of this only a couple months ago at an aquarium society meeting. It's now taken over my tank.

I consider it the aquatic version of clover. It's lush and green, and in the right circumstances (which I apparently have) it gets long, feather roots hanging down from the canopy. I wouldn't call this a nuisance plant. Someone with more balls than me could just grab a handful and throw it in the trash. But I can't bring myself to do it.

From what I can tell, it is Eared Watermoss. I know it is salvinia of some kind.

My betta loves the cover, as did my gourami when he was in a tank with it. It loves the relatively still water of my betta tank like a fat kid loves cake. It survives in my 10 gallon. In my 29, there is too much surface movement and it doesn't last.

You can come and get some for free, or I can meet up in Skagit county. I am looking to move some tanks around so I honestly would be happy to get rid of all but a few sprigs of it for now. I will be available starting Wednesday (I will be busy all day tomorrow.) PM me, leave a reply, etc.

You have to learn to throw some away. If you let it cover more than half of the surface area it reduces the amount of oxygen in the water, which is damaging to both fish and other plants. Give it away, throw it away, compost it, get goldfish to eat it, but don't let it take over. But, also be careful getting rid of too much of it at one time. If it is covering your tank, I'd get rid of half, wait a few days, get rid of half again, etc. I've crashed my tank by removing too much at once.
