Hey hey Very Happy
So, I'm 19 and have been into aquariums since I was young. Starting my sophomore year I decided I wanted to get into the actual raising aspect, and bought some convicts. So it began! As is common knowledge among fellow fish crazies, convicts are (and were) the perfect introduction to the aspects involved in breeding. Ive been hooked since; the last tank I had was a 75g with a breeding pair of Jack Dempseys. Jacks are BY FAR my favorite cichlid I've ever owned. Throughout school, their spawning brought in some extra cash from selling the broods to my LPS. I was able to talk to a few fellow hobbyists in the Port Townsend area, but MAN I wish I had knew about this site then!  Very Happy Couldve avoided a lot of mishaps... but I guess that's just part of the learning process Rolling Eyes

I left for Job Corps over the past summer and had to sell my pair, tank and equipment. But, as soon as I graduate here getting a new tank is first thing on my list! Hoping to try out festae and salvini in my next venture. But anyhoo, just figured Id show a quick "thank you" to everyone on here; Ive spent a couple hours just exploring the site, and everyone on here seems so helpful AND knowledgeable! Hard to find in todays world, especially  where casual people still think bettas can survive in glass cups  Evil or Very Mad   So thanks for the awesome site, and the people in it!

Lookin' forward to this! punk

Welcome to the club! There are a few people here that are really into the big SA cichlids, I'm sure you'll fit right in!

I agree  completely with fNAb. Smile

Let me know when you are ready. I have Festae, Labiatus, Red Isletas, Fenestratus, Melanurus all ready to go. Some Breidohri fry are about a month old, and some blue gene JD were just born 10 days ago. Hopefully I will have some Midas fry soon as well as some Haitiensis, Centrarchus, Coatzacoalcus, and Amarillo.

And welcome aboard. Very Happy

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone!  Very Happy  Ive definitely noticed how many people on here are into SA and CA cichlids, glad to know Im not alone in that! I have very ambitious ideas of one day starting up an African tank (prob Malawi) but my understanding is that they can be a bit more for... lets say 'experienced' keepers, when water quality and fish sensitivity are considered. But, that's down the road.

Madness, you seem to have quite the setup!  Shocked   Are you pretty constant with your broods? I don't graduate until probably around Feb or so next year, but those festae and haitiensis sound appealing. Out of curiosity, you have any experience with managuensis?

Again, thanks for the welcome

Welcome aboard, glad to have another enthusiast. Africans aren't that sensitive to water quality since they're tank bred, unless you're buying wilds. Anyhow, best of luck in your future plans in the hobby!

Welcome! Glad to see people excited to come here! Great hunch. I have learned a ton from this site and fellow keepers. Madness, PokeSephiroth, Betty, and fishNAbowl have been great help to me for my specific fish and tanks. But everyone here is very helpful! Again welcome!!

Again, thanks for the welcome

I am always breeding, that is what I enjoy most. I still have fry/growouts that are over a year old.

Yes the good old Jag Cichlid, what is it you would like to know?
