I know you've been bored with the behavior of your male isletas..... It time for you to get him a friend!  Also, it's time for you to update us with a video of him.  Here's some positive pure pressure and motivation for you.

They look good! My Isletas was a little beast when it was in the 210g because he had a major crush on Porkchop and would follow her like a puppy. He was majorly in love! His hump was huge and he ate like a pig and had a typical amp personality. But he was a total jerk to all the other fish and made the tank unbearable to watch. There is so much peace in the tank with him gone.

Now in the bowfront he is sooooo lame. He hides from his own reflection, really he does. I tried the mirror trick and he went and hid! I talked with madness about getting him a female and he has some that might fit the bill but Im really considering something else.... maybe an Oscar. Yep a plain old ugly Oscar. If I find a good looking Red Oscar or a Lemon, then the Isletas may go.

Get a female isletas until you find the Oscar! And if you find a lemon oscar, buy two. I'll give you the money for the second one

I have feelers out for the lemon. Ive seen them only once locally at Sierra and they were not that great.

Ive put my email in on some sites that have carried them but are out of stock currently. The type Ive seen at Sierra looked more like a yellowish tiger lutino, where as what Im looking for is called a 'sunshine lemon' which is basically a Xanthochromistic Red Oscar.

Yeah, that's the type I'm talking about!  I also wouldn't mind just a really nice red Oscar, but I think most shops only carry tigers now.... At least that's what the two I've been to have said.  Picking an Oscar is also very tricky as they have been bred so much that a lot if them get funky body shapes !  The two I had in highschool, all through college and a few years after college had what I call the perfect Oscar shape!

Petco gets in a pretty regular supply of reds. I found one source for a lemon online but sight unseen Im not sure I want to risk it.

what do you think?

What are they asking for it? And how much for shipping? I'd be hesitant if they couldn't email me at least one pic. But of super cheap, might be worth a gamble.  Heck if you don't like them, oscars are easy to get rid of ( at 5" or smaller) and at that size you can tell body shape and color

i personally wouldnt do it. i figured ya go for it at first, then figured why not see if they have any africans im after. literally every single picture was of a stressed out, underfed, poor quality, bad gene quality, etc. i think i found one pic of a species that i liked.. this does not bode well for them in my eyes. but if they did you right before then by all means go for it.

I only saw the 5-6" ones for $55....

I like the look of the BB O's but Ive seen some posted that showed no real yellow stripes. Looked super bland. If I was paying that I would want to see some nice yellow stripes showing.

Don't all oscars have big eyes?  Going to have to google this !

And yes 55 for one bumble bee or 50 each for two. Figured that was about the same price as the lemon with shipping haha

Just googled them.  They appear to be regular Oscar with pop eye disease. Is this a correct observation?

The crassipinnis is the same one that Bassetman had in his video. One of the characteristics I believe is the lack of red pigment in color and it is believed to be a smaller type of Oscar.

Weird ... No pigment? So it's like a chocolate cichlid then?

Got sidetracked reading the Oscar stuff but nice video Lloyd. Your fish have done some major redecorating and they are a great looking couple. Hope spawning goes well. As for the Oscar searches...I like the yellow also but I have seen some beautiful Oscars with the reds and blacks in them. Good luck in your search for them DMD.

Nope, when you actually get there they show as out of stock and email when they become available. That is where I would like to get one from.
